PROF. DR. ZAHID ANWAR, DIRECTOR CHINA STUDY CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF PESHAWARP DELIVERED AN ONLINE SPEECH AT ANNUAL MEETING OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DIALOGUE 2022, UIBE, BEIJING, CHINA

I am thankful to the organizers (especially UIBE) of the 5th International annual meeting of the Youth Dialogue on 15th January 2022. Distinguished speakers and respectable participants it is an honor and privilege for me to deliver my speech at this august forum on digital society and youth leadership. I appreciate the efforts of UIBE for its consistent efforts to empower youth to cope with the challenges of the 21st century.

Technological innovations are reshaping our society, economy and industries with unprecedented scale and speed. It is a society in which everything runs on digital technology where paperless and electronic means are the norm. Digital Society is a modern, progressive society that is formed as a result of the adoption and integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at home, work, education and recreation. Digital leadership can be defined by a leader’s contribution to the transition toward a knowledge society and their knowledge of technology. Digital technology is transforming politics, businesses, economies, society and our daily life.

Pakistan is developing digital economy and a paradigm shift has taken place in digital transformation. 64% of population of Pakistan is under the age of 30. It is a great potential which can be used for digital adoption. It is estimated that in Pakistan by 2030 digital technologies have the potential to unlock $59.7 billion annual economic value. Pakistan is a land of opportunity with young skilled professionals. This unmatched potential is untapped. CPEC is a bridge to promote a digital economy infrastructure with focused areas.

Joint effort can help solve big problems. It needs joint effort to achieve anything worthwhile.  The world needs Win-Win spirit to fully exploit the opportunities offered by the digital innovations and cope with its complex challenges.  The international community and particularly the developing countries should join hands and march together in a spirit of cooperation to make our shared digital future peaceful and prosperous.
