WEBINAR “KNOWLEDGE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THINK TANKS IN PAKISTAN FOR CHINA-PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT”

A Webinar titled “Knowledge Partnership between think tanks in Pakistan for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Development” was organized by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) on January 26th, 2023.

Many renowned speakers were invited to the webinar from Pakistan. The Webinar was moderated by Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah, Head of Policy CPEC, Ministry of Planning, Pakistan. A Keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Nadeem Ul Haque, Vice Chancellor, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).

Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of China Study Center, University of Peshawar also participated in the seminar. He stated that China and Pakistan are all-weather friends. Pakistan and China are strengthening their relationship through China Study Centers in Pakistan and Pakistan Study Centers in China. China Study Centers in Pakistan are playing an important role in bringing close together the peoples of the two countries. Likewise Pakistan Study Centers in China are also playing an important role in educating the Chinese People regarding Pakistani Culture, History, education, way of life, and society. In this connection China-Pakistan Universities consortium, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and China Association of Higher Education (CAHE) are playing a vital role to further strengthen cooperation in the field of Higher Education. 

He suggested that the MoUs between China and Pakistani Universities should have a simplified format so that time is saved regarding signing the MoUs. In addition, he also said that Visits to different CPEC projects/sites should be arranged for scholars and think tanks. 

He further proposed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan has huge deposits of variety of gemstones. We should collaborate with China for refining the gems stones by exchange of technology from China to Pakistan. Pakistan should import the technology from China to refine the gems stones here in Pakistan instead sending it to other countries. Under CPEC Pakistan and China cooperation should strengthen in gemstones refining technology. Prof Dr. Zahid Anwar particularly thanked Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah for invitation and organizing such a wonderful event which will contribute to the successful completion of CPEC projects.

Other speakers also participated in the webinar which included Mr. Tahir Mumtaz, Director of the China Study Center, COMSATS University Islamabad, Miss. Xiang Yang, Director of the China Study Center National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Mr. Abdul Sattar, Director of China Study Center, Baluchistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences, Quetta, Muhammad Tufail, Patron China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Cell, Dr. Talat Shabir, Director of China Study Center Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, Madam Farhat Asif, President of the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies, and many other scholars have also delivered their speeches in the webinar.
