ROUND TABLE TALK ON “XINJIANG AND ITS ROLE IN CPEC”

China Study Center, University of Peshawar, organized a Round Table Talk on “Xinjiang and its role in CPEC” on February 16, 2023, at 10:30 am at China Study Center, Conference Hall.

The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China

Prof. Dr. Kausar Takreem, Director, China Study Center, University of Peshawar welcomed all the distinguished speakers, Deans, Faculty members, students, media, and government officials to the event.

Prof. Dr. Kausar Takreem discussed Xinjiang’s historical perspective, emphasizing its cultural and geographical significance. She highlighted the region’s diverse past, including Silk Road connections, and its pivotal role in China’s development. Furthermore, she enlightened the audience on the importance of Xinjiang in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), emphasizing its strategic location and potential for economic growth.

Prof. Dr. Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi Chairman of the Department of International Relations, University of Peshawar discussed the significance of Xinjiang province concerning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). During his talk, he emphasized that the strong and enduring China-Pakistan relationship is built on the foundation of mutual trust.

Mr. Moiz Farooq Executive Editor at Pakistan Economic Net and Daily Ittehad Media Group who recently visited Xinjiang, China, imparted his firsthand experience to the audience, asserting that Muslims in the region are secure and lead comfortable lives. He emphasized that they enjoy a sense of safety and are able to live their lives without hindrance. He presented videos and images captured during his visit, providing a glimpse into the daily lives of Muslims in Xinjiang.

Mr. Maarij Farooq, Deputy Managing Director Capital Media House shared insights from his recent visit to China, underlining the robust relationship between China and Pakistan as “iron brothers.” He emphasized China’s consistent support for Pakistan during times of need, highlighting a deep-rooted partnership. Furthermore, he stressed the strategic importance of Xinjiang for both Pakistan and China, illustrating the region’s significance beyond its borders.

Mr. Muaaz Sayed, a Renmin University of China graduate, shared his personal living experiences with the audience, shedding light on the warmth and affection he encountered from the Chinese people. He emphasized the deep-seated mutual respect and admiration between the people of Pakistan and China, noting the genuine fondness the Chinese have for Pakistanis. During his stay, he observed firsthand the caring and loving nature of the Chinese people, illustrating the strong bonds of friendship

The event was followed by refreshments at the China Study Center, University of Peshawar. A large number of students, faculty members, scholars, and experts participated in the round table talk.
